# Encrypt the Mempool! > A coalition pushing to add encrypted mempool support to Ethereum in the upcoming I* hardfork — to stop front running, sandwich attacks, and real-time censorship at the protocol level. ## What This Site Is This is the campaign site for the Encrypt the Mempool! coalition. It documents the case for encrypting Ethereum's public mempool, lists coalition members and contributors, and explains how people can get involved. ## The Problem Every time an Ethereum user submits a transaction, it sits visible in the public mempool before being confirmed. Bots and builders can see transaction intent and exploit it — front running trades, sandwiching swaps, and filtering or delaying transactions in real time. Over $1.8 billion has been extracted from Ethereum users through MEV since 2020. ## The Solution An encrypted mempool on Ethereum would hide transaction contents from everyone until ordering is fixed by the chain. This removes the visibility that fuels malicious MEV and censorship, while preserving decentralization and credible neutrality. Unlike private mempools (which rely on trusted intermediaries who can still see your transaction), encrypted mempools provide trustless protection for all users by default. ## The EIP The coalition supports adding an encrypted mempool to Ethereum in the I* hardfork via a protocol-level EIP. The leading proposal is EIP-8184 (LUCID), authored by Anders Elowsson, Julian Ma, and others.
